Section 504 Accommodation Plans
"504" refers to Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Sometimes students with a medical disability need a section 504 plan to assure they have accommodations necessary to have equal access to instruction in school. Students may be eligible for a section 504 accommodation plan if they have a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits a major life function. A student's qualification for a section 504 plan is determined by an evaluation team at the school. Any available medical records or information from a doctor or psychologist will be taken into consideration during that evaluation.
When a student has a section 504 plan, this plan is shared with the student's teachers and updated annually. Every 3 years, the student's needs are re-evaluated to determine if they continue to be eligible.
